英語・長文読解(大分県公立高校入試問題)

次の英文を読み,(1)〜(7)の問いに答えなさい。
One day after school some boys were playing around a tall tree on the hill. Tom, the biggest boy, said to the other boys, “Let’s climb it.” They began to climb after Tom, but Peter didn’t.
“Can’t you come here, Peter? If you are *afraid, you can stay there,” said Tom on the tree.
@Peter’s face became red. He looked down and said nothing. Peter liked *brave Tom. He wanted to be friends with Tom.
That evening Tom’s father said to his family, “We are building the *tower now. We can see the whole town
from it.”
The next day after school ATom told the other boys about the tower. He said to them, “Let’s go to the tower.”
The boys walked to the building. It was near the school. Some people were working there. The boys looked up at the tower.
It’s *dangerous to go up such a high tower. I bought a new *bat. Let’s play baseball,” said Peter.
“Peter, you are always afraid,” Tom said. “But today BI’ll listen to you.
Tom was the first to *hit a ball. The ball flew high and far away. Then a big *sound was heard. One of the windows of a house was broken. Tom and the other boys ran away. They went behind trees and watched. But Peter thought he should say sorry, so he stayed there.
The window opened and an old man shouted, “Come here, boy.”
Peter was afraid, but he ran to the man.
“I’m very sorry,” said Peter. That was all he could say.
“All right, boy,” said the man with a smile. “It’s bad to break a window, but you said ‘sorry.’ You are really a good boy.”
Peter came home. His mother was in the kitchen. “Why do you look so   C   ?” she asked. He smiled and began to help her.

Soon the other boys came to his house.
“I’ve come to speak to you, Peter,” Tom said. “I’m sorry. I always said you were afraid. DYou have taught me what real *bravery is.
Peter took his hands. “   E   , Tom,” he said. “It’s OK. You are my friend.”
